On start-up, you will feel a brief vibration and experience a tactile loading animation on the braille display. After this point, your eReader is ready for use!

To navigate within a book, press Space with o (dots 1-3-5). A drop-down menu provides navigational options like page number, heading and book percentage.

1. 20-cell refreshable braille display

Imagine reading without feeling paper or pages turning under your fingertips; rather than the traditional tactile book experience, pins rise and fall to produce electronic braille instead. NLS is proud to make these revolutionary devices available free-of-charge to eligible patrons who qualify.

This eReader features 20 refreshable braille cells capable of displaying text, icons and other graphics. The ergonomic layout makes it easy to navigate and read; plus it supports common VoiceOver commands on iPhones, iPads and iPod touches devices.

On the front edge of your device are five navigation keys; rectangular keys provide direction movement while round ones activate items and exit Braille Display mode. These thumb keys may also be combined with other buttons to execute commands.

The eReader can easily connect with any computer or smartphone running the free screen reader JAWS. To connect, select it from your list of available Bluetooth devices in JAWS Braille Menu and press Enter; once connected, the content from the host device will appear on its display screen.

The eReader can connect to other devices using USB. To connect, select it in your screen reader’s Braille Menu as one of available USB devices and press Enter; once connected it can then be used as an external keyboard for typing on host device. To conserve battery power further it enters Sleep mode after five minutes without user interaction – however this time frame can be adjusted in settings menu.

2. Built-in Wi-Fi

Zoomax ereaders feature Wi-Fi connectivity that lets them easily connect to online services, as well as download books from National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled’s BARD collection.

To access the built-in Wi-Fi feature, first establish a wireless connection from within the Settings Menu by selecting Wifi and pressing Enter. When the Wi-Fi Status screen displays a list of available wireless networks in your area, if one requires password protection you must select Scan for SSID followed by “loading…” then using Down thumb key navigation select one network, press Enter then provide password. ereader will prompt for password when necessary.

Once your wireless connection is established, the Options Menu offers additional features to personalize your ereader’s operation. Here, you can adjust various functions including:

File Manager: Keep your ereader organized using multiple sorting options such as name, date, size and type to keep files and folders neat and orderly.

3. Access to the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS)

The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) is a free program of the Library of Congress that offers reading materials in braille and audio format to eligible patrons who are blind or have permanent low vision. NLS does this through an extensive network of cooperating libraries nationwide – to learn more about this service, contact your local braille and talking book library today!

To log into NLS BARD, navigate to the Online Services Menu and select NLS BARD from there. When signing in for the first time, you will be asked for your BARD username and password; these must be entered using uncontracted Unified English Braille characters.

Once logged in to NLS BARD, you’ll see a list of available titles that you can choose to download. Just follow the on-screen instructions to complete downloading the material; once complete, the title will be displayed on your braille display. To uninstall an item downloaded via NLS BARD Menu select Delete Paired Device which will forget it was ever there; while About Menu provides information about your eReader including its version number, model number serial number licenses and copyright.

5. Keyboard

The keyboard feature of the zoomax ereader offers an intuitive way of navigation. Each side offers an easily reachable thumb key that can be used to scroll across a line of text; labeled with vertical tactile lines for easy feel-ability and distinct shapes. Furthermore, there is a keypad with number keys on top and alphabet keys at bottom for entering data or commands.

Your keyboard can provide access to many menu items on your eReader, including using it to highlight text while reading by choosing Highlight Bookmark Start from the Bookmark Menu and then specifying where you would like the highlight to end – the eReader will set this position as its bookmark ending point.

Use your keyboard to quickly access various menu items and settings. The File Manager menu allows you to manage files just like on a computer or tablet; plus you can even move books using Book Reader between locations!

Search Menu is another handy feature on an eReader that allows you to locate specific books stored on your device. To access it, press Space with f (dots 1-2-4). Type part or all of a title you are searching for into the box provided and your device will display results. Additionally, About Menu provides information about your eReader such as version numbers, model number serial number license and copyright issues as well as updates that might occur for software on it.
