With a success rate of over ninety percent, Dr. Dulce Walker thrives on bringing smiles to the faces of her patients that previously had no hope of ever driving again, watching tv or even seeing the smiles on their loved ones faces. After being told that “nothing else can be done” for their vision, patients have come to her, and with the help of the most up to date in specialized optical microscopes and telescopes, she has helped people return to their favorite past times such as reading, playing cards and enjoying theater.
Dr. Walker graduated from the University of Kentucky and the Indiana University School of Optometry and has been working in the optometry field since 1986. As a United States Air Force veteran and the Clinical Director of Low Vision of New Mexico (LVNM), a leading clinic in low vision technologies that offers the most advanced equipment in the state of New Mexico, she is a front runner in the field of optical solutions.
As a low vision specialist, she treats patients who suffer from disease like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt’s disease as well as vision impairment due to stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Having earned the position as a Fellow in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS), Dr. Walker’s passion involves helping people to regain independence when they suffer from vision impairment. She is devoted to enabling the partially sighted to live a healthier, happier and more independent life. Through her position as a clinical partner with several low vision companies, she is able to offer the latest in optical technology such as the eSight and IrisVision systems.
Dr. Walker enjoys spending her free time with her husband David, biking, hiking and traveling around the world.
