After receiving both his bachelor’s and Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University, Dr. Jarrod Long completed advanced residency training at a veteran’s hospital in New York. During his residency, he received extensive low vision certification through the training he completed at the Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
In 1997 he partnered with his wife, Dr. Angela Long, O.D. to open Long Family Eye Care, located in Bloomington, Indiana. Together they practiced general optometry while he continued to develop his skills for specializing in low vision.
Dr. Long gained valuable experience with his background as a staff member with the I.U. School of Optometry where he worked with students proctoring for general optometry and low vision examinations. He completed training with Dr. Richard Shuldiner, O.D., F.A.A.O, a renowned Low Vision Diplomat, in 2006, and went on to structure Midwest Low Vision. Due to this specialized training, he now holds the title of a Fellow in the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists.
Dr. Long gained extensive lecture experience throughout his career, which has helped in his efforts to share his knowledge with other specialists in the optical field. He supports his community by being involved with the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and engaging in the community.
He enjoys spending time with his wife Angela, daughters Emily and Madelyn, and the family’s two dogs. They take advantage of their free time by going kayaking, traveling, watching movies and enjoying music.
