Certified by the College of Optometrists of British Columbia and receiving his Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Shaun Golemba has been providing fundamental eye care to patients with low vision concerns since 2001.
Dr. Golemba spent time in his clinical rotations at a specialty low vision clinic called the Center for Sight Enhancement. He followed with a post-degree program with the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists. The term Low Vision refers to patients that are unable to see well enough to perform regular duties wearing conventional glasses, contact lenses or through the help of laser eye surgery.
In 2013 Dr. Golemba created a program engineered to enhance the early diagnosis of Macular Degeneration. His program, the Macular Degeneration Center of Excellence also has goals to prevent or minimize the progression of the condition.
After years spent referring his low vision patients, Dr. Golemba recognized the necessity for advanced prescriptive devices beyond that offered by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). As a member of the British Columbia Doctors of Optometry, Canada Doctors of Optometry and the International Academy for Low Vision Specialists, he now offers customized options for helping patients regain their independence.
An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Golemba enjoys time spent snow boarding and dirt biking the areas surrounding his home in Port Alberni, BC, Canada. He realizes that with the low vision technologies available, he can help others enjoy their favorite activities again too.
