DR. WAYNE HOEFT

1112 W. Burbank Blvd #204,
Burbank, CA 91506

Practicing optometry since 1959, Dr. Wayne Hoeft joined the Southern California College of Optometry as a faculty member. There was no Low Vision specialist in the field of optometry at the time, so he got his start on the ground floor when he was requested to assist in the design of equipment for people with visual impairments.

Low Vision is now the mainstay of Dr. Hoeft’s business, and he has had patients in their 40s and 50s since they were  teenagers. However, as the prevalence of Age-related Macular Degeneration has increased, his practice has shifted to primarily geriatric Low Vision patients. He also sees a lot of persons with Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stargardts, and Best’s Disease, as well as cases of eye damage and other less common disorders.

Basic hand magnifiers to Low Vision telescopes and microscopes are among the low vision aids he recommends. The options are determined by the patients’ needs and the equipment with which they are most familiar. Of course, these varies from one patient to the next…and each visual need necessitates a unique equipment.
